Queen is planning a tour through America with Adam Lambert of American Idol fame.

It’s nearly 30 years since British rock group Queen toured with the group’s lead singer Freddie Mercury (1986). Now the group is planning a tour through America with Adam Lambert of American Idol fame as the legendary singer’s replacement. The former frontman died in 1991.The group will perform in 18 American cities in June and July. It’s not Adam’s first appearance with Queen. He and some of the band members recently shared the American Idol stage and in September last year they performed together at the iheartRadio Music Festival. Watch this video clip of the performance which drew rave reviews from critics.

In the group’s media release Adam says the thought of touring with Queen is surreal. “I'm honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory; he's a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band.” Since being named runner-up in the 2009 American Idol season Adam has launched a successful music career. He sang a Queen song for his first audition for the series. Watch the video clip here
