It would have made for great TV, wouldn’t it? South Africa’s first ladies showing us how they live (with perhaps an appearance or two by President Jacob Zuma). Alas, Zuma’s Housewives is just a figment of the imagination of some bored bloggers.

According to Lifestyle Tabloid e.tv’s channel head Monde Twala made the announcement at an “exclusive” press conference in Johannesburg. Lifestyle Tabloid is an online blog that markets itself as marketing & media communications agency. The programme, Lifestyle Tabloid writes, will be set at the backdrop of the controversial Nkandla village, profiling the pleasures and pressures the wives encounter.

But e.tv distanced itself from news that it will be airing a reality show called Zuma’s Housewives, saying the information malicious, false and mischievous. “The Channel has not been approached to produce or broadcast a show of this nature and has no knowledge of it whatsoever,” the channel’s website states.

“Etv is not associated with a programme such as this, which is disrespectful to the President or the Office of the President of South Africa. This article is defamatory and also undermines the channel’s integrity.”

Shaka Sisulu, who is the Founder of Cheesekids and is an ANCYL task team member, was said to be the creator and producer of the series. He called Lifestyle Tabloid “idiots that want attention.”

It’s not the first time they’ve publicised a whopper. They once reported there was a warrant of arrest for City Press editor Farial Haffajee for publishing picture of Nkandla.
