Rob Louw: another cancer blow

There are few homes happier than the Louws’ – except every three months when the dreaded test looms again.

Since three years ago, when cancer left former Bok Rob Louw (56) at death’s door, he’s had regular scans.

And in March this year the news wasn’t good: he had a melanoma on his duodenum, the part of the small intestine responsible for digesting food.

But like the proverbial cat with nine lives Rob lands on his feet, alive and kicking, every time – as he did again after the last scan.

Today, outside his big farmhouse he’s bursting with energy as he loads thatching on his bakkie for one of his many projects.

You’d never guess half his stomach had to be removed three months ago.

YOU’s Carol Coetzee visited Rob and his family at their home in Durbanville, Cape Town. Read more in YOU 19 July 2012.
