Rob Lowe is heading back to the small screen with another new comedy. The Parks & Recreation actor has partnered with veteran comedy writers Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory, who were behind his NBC pilot The Pro, to launch the new project, according to Deadline. The single-camera family comedy follows a “worldly, adventurous, and newly sober narcissist”, the outlet reports.

'[I have a] very fun, little bit in the new Seth Rogen and James Franco movie The Interview, which is my favourite concept of a movie ever'

Drama unfolds as Rob’s character returns to his hometown determined to reenter his children’s lives and make amends with his ex-wife more than a decade after leaving his family.

The show will be produced by ABC Studios for air on NBC.

Rob will executive produce with Pete, Alex and Marc Gurvitz, of Brillstein Entertainment, according to the outlet.

The 50-year-old actor can next be seen on the small screen in TV movie Beautiful and Twisted, co-starring Paz Vega and Candice Bergen.

He also recently took on a small part in Seth Rogen and James Franco's new flick The Interview, which Rob recently gushed is his favourite film concept "ever, ever, ever, ever".

The story follows Seth and James' characters, who run a tabloid TV show and are astounded to discover North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan. They set up an interview with him in Pyongyang, but are then recruited by the CIA to assassinate him. The premise has caused uproar, with North Korea complaining to the United Nations and threatening a "resolute and merciless" response against the US if it was produced.

"[I have a] very fun, little bit in the new Seth Rogen and James Franco movie The Interview, which is my favourite concept of a movie ever. Ever, ever, ever, ever," Rob laughed to la-confidential-magazine.com back in September.

"Any time you can be affiliated with a movie where another rogue state threatens you with assassination, you know that you’re doing something right. So, I’m very happy about that. Although, clearly, I will never be going to North Korea."
