Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills has confirmed that two men, aged 28 and 31, have been arrested in what was described as a major breakthrough in the murder of popular teacher Jayde Panayiotou. Mills said there was a strong prima facie case against both, and that robbery had been ruled out as motive for the murder.

"The one suspect, aged 31, has been arrested during the week and will appear in court today [Thursday] while the second suspect was arrested late last night and is expected to appear in court on Monday," she said.

Mills would not speculate on the names of those arrested.

"It is not police procedure to release the details of suspects before they have appeared in court," she said.

Mills congratulated the task team, which consisted of local detectives, Hawks, crime intelligence and the NPA for the breakthrough in the investigation.
