Rohde girls to be cared for by grandparents as father is taken to Stellenbosh to appear in court

Suspect in the Spier murder case Jason Rohde, who was arrested on Tuesday morning in front of his three daughters, is expected to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The head of the property agency Sotheby's was taken into custody in connection with the death of his wife, Susan. He was originally set to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court, but authorities have decided Rohde will appear in the town in which his wife was found dead two weeks ago, his lawyer Daniel Witz confirmed. Susan (47) was found dead on 24 July in a hotel room on Spier wine estate, close to Stellenbosch. YOU's Hilda van Dyk was outside the Randburg police station when Rohde who was taken away by police.

Rohde sat in the backseat of a white Nissan Hardbody with a CL (Stellenbosch) license plate, with two police officers in front. He attempted to hide his face from onlookers.

Speaking outside the court in Randburg, Witz said the Rohde girls will be cared for by their grandparents in their father's absence.

Rohde's legal team is expected to apply for bail on Thursday.

According to Witz, Rohde's only concern is his daughters. "He told us, 'Just make sure they're OK.'"

"No arrest warrant has been issued. The police had a letter from the NPA to make the arrest," Daniel said.

At this stage "Jason is strong," says Witz.
