If the original Princess Diaries taught us anything, it’s that dreams can come true. And now millions of fans of Anne Hathaway’s breakout performance as Princess Mia Thermopolis can eagerly anticipate her return to a third Princess Diaries’ movie.

The movie’s director Gary Marshall confirmed to People Magazine that plans are indeed in place to tell the next chapter in Princess Mia’s fairy tale.

And the best part is: Anne is on board!

“I was with Anne a couple of weeks ago,” Gary said. “And it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan.”

Anne is currently heavily pregnant with her first child with husband Adam Schulman. “So we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it,” Gary added.

Although neither Anne nor Disney, the company behind the two successful films based on the books by Meg Cabot, have given official comment, hope for a third film is still very much alive after first starting to circulate in 2015.

Apart from Anne hopefully returning, director Gary also told People that an appearance by Chris Pine, Mia’s love interest in the second film A Royal Engagement, should not be ruled out.

“Maybe,” said Gary about the possible return of Lord Nicholas Devereaux. “He’s quite big now, you know. And he likes me.”

Chris’ father, Robert, has a small role in Gary’s latest film Mother’s Day also starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

The first Princess Diaries movie appeared in 2001 and grossed more than $165 million. It's since become a feel-good classic -- and it's a regular at slumber parties all over the globe.

Three years later a follow-up, A Royal Engagement, was released and met with a less enthusiastic response from critics and fans.

Here’s hoping that part three would reignite the magic.
