We just love the entrepreneurial spirit of our celebs. In the past few weeks three DJs have decided to go into business opening their own stores. While Mark Pilgrim has gone the franchise route and bought his own frozen yoghurt store Smooch, 5FM's Grant Nash has gone vegan and DJ Euphonik will be launching his own clothing brand.

Vegan Restaurant

5FM DJ Grant Nash has opened his own vegan restaurant. The DJ, who’s known for embracing the Buddhist lifestyle, decided Joburg needed a space where vegans could enjoy more than just take-away.

“We’re the only vegan place that’s opened for dinner service through the week,” he says of his restaurant Conscious 108 in Greenside, Joburg.

Grant tells us he and business partner (and cook) Misha Dhupelia try to source organic ingredients and import some as well as they’re not readily available in SA as yet.

“Our menu is exciting though. We have pastries like donuts and croissants and an ice cream I’m most proud of.” Besides sandwiches and wraps, they serve dinner options like gourmet bunny chows, spinach and ricotta cannelloni and fancy tofu dishes.

Clothing Store

The 5FM and club DJ and best bud DJ Kent will debut their new brand, Debut, at their store in Braamfontein in the Joburg CBD next month.

The DJ’s, who’ve known each other for several years, have designed their own street wear brand which they will stock along with edgy international brands as well.

“Kent and I travelled overseas recently and realised there were so much cool stuff we couldn’t find in SA, so were inspired to open our own place to showcase the cool fashion trends.”

Frozen yoghurt store

Presenter and radio DJ Mark Pilgrim says besides radio, he keeps himself busy doing voice-overs, motivational speaking and co-owning his own hydroponic pepper farm. He’s added retailer to his long list now and is a proud owner of his own frozen yoghurt store Smooch.

“The store is opening at a new regional shopping centre called Forest Hill City in Centurion, Pretoria. We’ll be up and running by the end of May and I’m so excited!”
