Sam Smith took home two gongs at the Brit Awards on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old singer proved victorious at the prestigious ceremony at London’s O2 Arena.

Following incredible success on both sides of the pond, Sam took home the Global Success award, presented to him by Kim Kardashian.

'Since I was a little kid I dreamed of people all over the world singing my songs'

Accepting the prize, Sam said: “'Since I was a little kid I dreamed of people all over the world singing my songs.

"And although I've got a long, long way to go, this shows that I'm stepping in the right direction."

Stay With Me singer Sam was also crowned British Breakthrough Act. His success comes after he took home four gongs at the Grammy Awards earlier this month.

But Sam wasn’t the only double winner of the evening.

Ed Sheeran also took home two awards. The singer was presented with the first award of the evening for British Male Solo Artist.

Ed then beat Sam to take home the biggest award of the night – British Album.

Taking to the stage, Ed admitted to the audience that he found it difficult to believe that his record Multiply had been such a hit.

“Thank you so much for this,” Ed told the audience. “I was really worried about this album, it took a long time to be happy with it.”

Ed was presented with the award by Gladiator star Russell Crowe, who looked ready to make a dash for it in an overcoat over his suit and tie.

Other winners of the evening included Taylor Swift, who won her first ever Brit, for International Female Solo Artist, Pharrell Williams for International Male Solo Artist, Foo Fighters for International Group and One Direction for British Artist Video of the Year for You & I.
