SAMAs 2014: Mafikizolo take an early lead

Earlier today Mafikizolo bagged three industry awards at the South African Music Awards hours before the main event at Sun City's Superbowl. The industry awards takes place before the main event and rewards technical and sales excellence.

The Afro pop duo Mafikizolo's Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe bagged three awards for Best Selling Ring-Back Tone, Best Selling Full-Track Download and Best Selling Mobile Music Download of the Year for their single Khona.

The duo have been nominated for a total of eight awards on the night and have five more categories they could possibly win later tonight.

DJ Kent's Spin My World Around won Most Played Song on South African Radio in 2013 for the collaboration which features The Arrows, while The Parlotones who, for the second year in a row, won the award for Best Music Video of the Year for Sleepwalker, which features rapper Khuli Chana.

Newcomer Nakhane Toure, who's been nominated for five awards, has also won his first SAMA as his debut album Brave Confusion won Best Alternative Album.
