The detergents or cleaning materials you use daily to clean your kitchen cupboards and work surfaces can be expensive. Take the trouble to make your own with herbs from your garden

.

Detergent for all surfaces

handful rosemary, thyme or sage

300 ml water

2 tablespoons bicarbonate of soda

8 drops lemon juice

Place the herbs, leaves and twigs in a saucepan. Add the water, cover and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from the stove and allow to cool. Pour through a sieve into a spray bottle. Add the bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice. Close the lid and shake the bottle well.

This liquid can be used to clean basins and bathroom and kitchen surfaces. It keeps up to a week in the fridge.
