Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is out of his medically induced coma, his manager Sabine Kehm confirmed today.

Six and a half months after his skiing accident, the 45-year-old is awake and has been moved from ICU in Grenoble to a rehabilitation facility.

In a statement, Kehm said the racer was moved “to continue his long phase of rehabilitation.” She did not say where Schumacher was taken or give any more details of his condition.

Doctors placed Schumacher in a medically induced coma after he suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps on 29 December.

In January, his doctors began the process of withdrawing sedatives to wake him up. By April, Kehm reported he was showing "moments of consciousness and awakening."
