Six years ago, Arkansas' Schuler Benson tried to go on Facebook on his cellphone – and was shocked to discover he was logged into a stranger's account.

In 2009, Arkansas' Schuler Benson tried to go on Facebook on his cellphone -- and was shocked to discover he was logged into a stranger's account. The woman's name was Celeste. She lived thousands of kilometres away in Colorado, and the two had no friends in common.

'I found my partner, my best friend, my great love via a simple glitch in social media'

"I opened the browser, went to facebook.com, and wasn't even given a chance to enter any login information," Schuler explained in an Imgur post.

"I was already logged in. I had to make several posts in order to find out I wasn't logged into my own account." As Schuler tried to log out of the account, he and Celeste started chatting.

Eventually, bewildered Schuler managed to log out of Celeste's account. When he logged into his, he discovered Celeste had sent him a Friend Request.  He accepted.

Celeste had intended to deleted him after a while, she told Heavy.com, having only invited him to make sure the glitch was fixed. But she soon changed her mind.

“I never did (delete him) because I enjoyed his status updates,” she said. “He would post such funny stuff that I liked having him in my feed. We commented here and there on each other’s statuses and that is how we got to know one another.”

Eventually, they decided to meet in 2013.  It clearly went well -- later that same year, Celeste moved to Arkansas to be with Schuler.

And, in the perfect full circle, he decided to propose in the same way they met!

He hacked into her account and posted a picture of an engagement ring, captioning it. "I’m coming back here. Celeste, I’m hacking into your Facebook account for the second time (on purpose for the first time ;)) to ask you a question….Will you marry me?"

Of course, she said yes! The couple were wed in a beautiful garden ceremony this year.

"I found my partner, my best friend, my great love via a simple glitch in social media," Schuler said. "There are awful things in this world, but sometimes there’s beauty, too."
