Short of having plastic surgery you can’t change your bone structure, but with clever use of make-up you can make your face look slimmer.

Short of having plastic surgery you can’t change your bone structure, but with clever use of make-up you can make your face look slimmer.

WIDE-OPEN EYES

Making your facial features seem bigger can make your face look slimmer. Huge lashes make eyes look wider and bigger. Apply at least two coats of mascara, a lengthening one and a thickening one. Apply the lengthening mascara deep from the roots of your lashes and stroke upwards. When you apply the thickening mascara focus on building it up on the lashes at the outer corners of the eyes. Select an eyeliner that’s easy to handle and goes on smoothly on the delicate skin around the eyes. Drawing a line inside the lashes will emphasise the shape of the eyes. You can also make your eyes appear bigger by lining the lower inner rim with a light or white liner. Try false eyelashes for a big night out.

CHEAT’S CHEEKS

Cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin before applying foundation to promote a smooth finish. Use a long-wear foundation that’s suitable for your skin type. Daytime make-up is generally lighter so shading should be more subtle than for evening. Use a blush kit with three shades designed for shadowing and highlighting, or select three shades – light, medium and dark – in the same hue. Apply a layer of the darkest shade beneath the cheekbone, starting in line with the outer corner of the eye and brushing towards the ear. Sweep the medium blush shade across the cheekbone, overlapping the darker shade for a subtle effect. Apply one finger’s width of highlighter on the top of the cheekbone no closer than two finger widths from the eyes. Add one more brush stroke of shadow colour underneath the cheekbones if needed.

PERFECT POUT

The fuller your lips the slimmer your face will seem. First exfoliate your lips by rubbing them with a warm, wet cloth. Lip-plumping gloss will plump and colour the lips by encouraging an increase in blood flow. The gloss will provide shine and moisture. Line and fill in your lips with a light brown or nude lip liner.
