The 71st annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday. Here are some of the highlights from the evening. Like any big Hollywood party with the stars, there were lots of hysterics, beautiful people, gorgeous dresses and a bit of Scandal on the side. Here’s why you should tune in to the rebroadcast tonight on M-Net at 20.30.

The oopsie . . .

E! Entertainment had this great idea to share “Fun Facts” as a screen graphic during the red carpet portion of the Golden Globes. One such fact shared was that actor Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991. Twitter imploded almost immediately at the insensitive nature of referring to his deliberating disease as a “fun fact”. They apologized for their gross insensitivity towards both the actor and the disease.

The selfies . . .

Sarah Hyland

Anytime is a good time for selfies. Stars that got in on the selfie action while preparing for the big night and on the red carpet included Modern Family co-stars Sarah Hyland and Ty Burrell and P Diddy.

The funnies . . .

You know wherever actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are, there’s bound to be some dirty jokes and sore truths. The duo hosted the event for the second year and made magic yet again.

 Amy and Tina’s best burns

On George Clooney’s role in Gravity starring alongside Sandra Bullock: “Clooney would rather float away and die rather than spend one moment with a woman his own age”.

When introducing Leonardo DiCaprio: “Like a supermodel's vagina, let's all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio

Jennifer Lawrence . . .

Jennifer Lawrence dress

She is the darling of the industry right now so she gets her own category. Her fashion faux pas inspired some hilarious online action. Many said her Dior gown looked like a white duvet with two black bands around the middle. Singer Lana Del Rey’s friends sent her images of them dressed like JLaw.

She photo bombed Taylor Swift. Either that, or she was about to attack the singer.

She won. Again. This time for Best Supporting Actress for her role as housewife Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle.

The South African connection . . .

U2 with Diddy

U2 took home the award for Best Original Song for Ordinary Love from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
