Ahead of Spud 2: The Madness Continues opening at cinemas countrywide on Friday 21 June, we have a chat to Josh Goddard (Mad Dog).

We interview Josh Goddard, who plays Charlie “Mad Dog” Hopper in The Madness Continues. Mad Dog constructs a headquarters for the Crazy 8 in a hidden tree house on the outskirts of the school grounds.

What can Spud fans look forward to in The Madness Continues?

The fact that we had some valuable experience behind us, as a group we had gelled nicely and helped us complement each other.

What was your favourite scene to shoot?

There was a great vibe during the scenes in the Mad House. Being packed into a small space produced some interesting challenges.  Also the scene where Byron and I howl into a microphone produced quite few laughs between the two of us.

What is your favourite thing about your character?

Without doubt his carefree demeanour.

Do you have a lot in common with your character?

There are a few relatable characteristics although I seem to have calmed down a fair bit!

What was the funniest moment on set?

With so many different people on set for so long, I couldn’t pick one - it wouldn’t do the amount of laughs we had justice.

Who in the cast did you get along with the best?

Everyone was great and impacted me positively in different regards but Byron and I spent a lot of time together.

Who was the troublemaker on set?

I’d probably say our Director of Photography Lance Gewer, he was always in amongst the goings on – he’s a great guy.

Were there any off-screen romances between cast members?

Not that I knew of.

Of all the members of the cast, who do you think would make the best couple?

I don’t consider myself much of a matchmaker.

What’s in the pipeline for you this year?

I’ve actually gone what some people may consider back a step to redo a couple of my matric subjects, after which I’ll enrol at either UCT or Stellenbosch to do a Bachelor of Science. This will help me with qualifications which will enable me to return to Zimbabwe, where I’m from, and help my Dad with his work rebuilding things there.
