Ahead of Spud 2: The Madness Continues opening at cinemas countrywide on Friday 21 June, we have a chat to Troye Sivan (Spud).

We interview SA-born Australian-bred Troye Sivan, who plays John "Spud" Milton in Spud 2: The Madness Continues. Spud returns to his private boarding school in the Midlands for the second year, to tackle girl troubles, his deranged band of friends and his horribly embarrassing parents - all of which he documents in his diary. The Madness Continues opens in cinemas on Friday 21 June.

What can Spud fans look forward to in The Madness Continues?

This time, it's funnier. The books are a comedy series, and you always hear people saying how much they laughed when they read them. The second film is really going back to those roots, and things get crazy.

What was your favourite scene to shoot?

There is a food fight scene in this movie. Need I say more?

What is your favourite thing about your character?

I like the fact that Spud is a really normal kid, who somehow ends up in the craziest situations. I take my hat off to the guy for coping!

Do you have a lot in common with your character?

Bits and pieces. I think I relate to him in the way most people do - he just wants to fit in. Other than that, I'd actually say we're pretty different!

What was the funniest moment on set?

Any moment that involved Blessing Xaba (Fatty).

Who in the cast did you get along with the best?

I'm going to be super diplomatic and boring and say that we work best as a group. There's not a single member of this cast that I don't absolutely love.

Who was the troublemaker on set?

Blessing Xaba.

Were there any off-screen romances between cast members?

Under Crazy 8 Law, I unfortunately cannot disclose this information (yes).

Of all the members of the cast, who do you think would make the best couple?

Under Crazy 8 Law, I unfortunately cannot disclose this information (for realsies this time).

What’s in the pipeline for you this year?

I'm doing a lot of online work on my YouTube (www.youtube.com/troye) and other sites, which is really fun! I'm also heading to the US and UK for YouTubey stuff, and I’ve got some very exciting music stuff going on which I’m so excited about.
