Steak salad with poached apples

Some gorgeous food to treat your loved ones with during the month of love

Preparation time: 10 min

Cooking time: 15 min

Serves: 4-6

Poached apples

500 ml (2 c) red wine

125 ml (½ c) sugar

2 star anise

1 cinnamon stick

5 cloves

5 peppercorns

4 baby apples

Steak salad

300 g fillet steak

10 ml (2 t) oil

salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

1 bunch of wild rocket

Parmesan cheese (optional)

10 ml (2 t) balsamic reduction

1. Poached apples: Add the wine, sugar and spices to a pot and boil for 3 minutes. Add the apples and reduce the heat to simmer for 10 minutes.

2. Steak salad: Rub the meat with oil and season with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat a pan on high and quickly sear the meat on both sides. Let it rest then slice thinly.

3. Arrange the rocket, apples, fillet slices and parmesan if using on a platter. Drizzle over balsamic reduction and serve.
