A woman who allegedly tried to smuggle drugs worth R4,6 millon into the country is not a celebrity, police said.

She's STILL in Dubai, everyone! Actress Stevie French has taken to Twitter to clear her name, as users speculated she was the actress who tried to smuggle drugs worth R4,6 millon into the country.

Stevie, who was in the UAE, posted a selfie by a pool to prove she wasn't involved. "Can errr'body just chill," the blonde beauty tweeted. "I am still in Dubai sitting poolside."

This morning, the SA Revenue Service said a South African actress was caught allegedly trying to smuggle drugs worth an estimated R4,6 million into the country at OR Tambo International Airport. But police later announced that the woman was not a local celebrity at all. "Contrary to public belief, the arrested woman is not a South African celebrity," Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said.

'The details of the passenger will only be released once she has appeared in court'

SA Revenue Service Spokesperson Luther Lebelo had earlier said the woman, after arriving from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, went through the "nothing to declare" channel at the OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, when she was stopped by customs officials.

Fifteen parcels weighing a total of 15,4 kg and containing ephedrine were found in one of her bags.

"The narcotics and passenger, identified as a South African actress, were detained and subsequently handed over to South African Police Service organised crime for further investigation," Lebelo said.

"In line with South African law, the details of the passenger will only be released once she has appeared in court," Lebelo said.

However, a Twitter guessing game, under the #GuessTheActress, speculated over who she was and whether she appeared in local soapies.

Several prominent soapie actresses were also mentioned by Twitter users.
