A patient from Guinea is currently in isolation at the Rahima Moosa Hospital, west of Johannesburg. He is suspected to have Ebola.

UPDATE: Tests have confirmed that the patient does not have Ebola.

“If it is a confirmed Ebola case then the patient will be transferred to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital which has been designated to treat Ebola with all due safeguards,” Jack Bloom, DA Gauteng health spokesperson told The Citizen. The department of health said they will update the nation within the next hour.

The death toll has topped 1000, since the outbreak began in West Africa in December 2013.

Bloom has called it a “serious situation”.
