Temperatures are expected to reach up to 40°C.

The SA Weather Service has warned of a major heatwave set to hit Gauteng in the coming days, with temperatures set to hit 36°C.

They added that parts of other provinces -- the Northern Cape, Free-State and North West --  will also be affected due to the high pressure system in the northern and central parts of the country, EWN reports.

In the Northern Cape in particular, temperatures will rise to 40 °C.

“We expect those provinces to have a heatwave until at least Thursday this week," forecaster Wayne Venter said.

"We expect temperatures to be very high with temperatures in the mid to high 30s. Some places may even reach 40°C in the northern part of the Northern Cape and North West province.”

The weather service also warned of veld fire conditions in the province.
