Taylor Swift has asked the media to stop “accusing” her friends of dating her.

The Shake It Off singer took to social media ahead of her birthday on Saturday to berate the press for the constant rumours surrounding her private life. And the 24-year-old accused the industry of being desperate in the quest for gossip.

“As my 25th birthday present from the media, I'd like for you to stop accusing all my friends of dating me. #thirsty” she wrote on Monday.

The message comes after a number of outlets ran photographs last week that seemingly showed the star embracing Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss. The friends were watching The 1975 in concert when the grainy images were captured.

They quickly spread across the Internet with fans speculating there was more to their relationship than just a platonic friendship. But Taylor’s representative was quick to tell GossipCop.com that the allegations were “hilarious”.

The beauties have spent a lot of time together lately, with the Blank Space singer performing alongside the 22-year-old model as she walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in London on last week.

Taylor is currently single but has dated a string of famous faces in the past, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner and One Direction’s Harry Styles. While she recently said that she is happy with her solo status, it was rumoured last month that she was considering meeting up with the boyband star.

“She's not angry any more, but there's a huge part of her that thinks she should be smart and keep away from him," a source told British magazine Heat. “She's scared he'll break her heart again. They're both going to be on the East Coast for New Year's Eve, hosting at Ryan Seacrest's telecast, so Taylor's said they can talk properly then. None of her friends are shocked by the reunion - Taylor never got over him."
