What do you teach and where?

I’m head of department for maths at Hoërskool Centurion.

Why did you choose teaching as a career?

I love maths and when the “lights go on” in the learners. I want to transmit my love of maths to them.

Give three tips to other maths teachers

1)      Always be prepared.

2)      Let learners summarise their work and write it down.

3)      Make sure the learners pay attention all the time (even if it means you must be strict).

Give three tips to beginner teachers of any subject in any grade

1)      Always be prepared.

2)      Don’t try to be friends with the learners to be popular.

3)      Keep learners busy all the time or they’ll become naughty.

What is your favourite technology or book to use?

The Scriblr Educator and tablet, which turn my board into an interactive whiteboard.

What motivates you?

My desire to give my best every day and be what I was created to be.
