A grade five Pennsylvania boy will be charged as an adult with criminal homicide after he confessed to killing a 90-year-old woman with a wooden cane, the Wayne County district attorney's office said.

"I killed that lady," Tristen Kurilla (10) candidly told a Pennsylvania state trooper, after Helen Novak's body was found in his grandfather's home in Tyler Hill, CNN reports.
'I was only trying to hurt her'

Tristen was visiting his grandfather Anthony Virbitsky on Saturday when he went into Helen's room to ask her something, police said in a statement. Anthony  was Novak's caregiver. Tristen said Helen shouted at him to get out and he "lost his temper".

Tristen told his mother Martha Virbitsky "he got mad and grabbed a cane and put it around Helen's throat." Helen was sitting at the end of her bed and the boy came up behind her with the cane, hooked it around her throat and yanked it back, The Times Tribune reports.

“I was only trying to hurt her,” Tristen reportedly told police.

The coroner's office ruled Helen's primary cause of death as "blunt force trauma to the neck."

Tristen was charged as an adult with criminal homicide and aggravated assault, and is being held at the Wayne County Correctional Facility. The prosecutor's office said that the crime of homicide "is specifically excluded from the juvenile act" and therefore "a juvenile who commits the crime of homicide is charged as an adult."

According to court documents, Martha  admitted she "has had a lot of trouble with Tristen and that he has had some mental difficulties."
