Earlier reports suggested Ray's cancer was terminal.

Speaking to The Sowetan, Ray allegedly asked that his privacy be respected and that he be given space during this time.

“Let me suffer pain, on my own with dignity,” he told The Sowetan.

Ray’s condition was revealed recently when a crowdfunding page was set up to help Ray with his medical bill. However‚ the page was shut down‚ apparently at the request of the family.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Thuli Phiri confirmed that her father was admitted to hospital but said people should stop "spreading rumours".

"People should stop diagnosing my father on social media. The public should also stop spreading rumours that my father has run out of hospital funds.

"We would like to be left in peace at the moment and allow the family to deal with the matter privately." She further said he is in good hands and the hospital staff is taking good care of him. Ray Phiri is part of the internationally acclaimed group, Stimela, of which he is lead vocalist and guitarist. In the meantime, people have taken to social media to wish him well.
