Thank you, love boat!

It wasn’t quite love at first sight when Chris Linford met Candice Dafel. The actor related the story to guests at their recent wedding at Riverside Castle chapel near Pretoria.

They met in 2005 when he, as a star of Egoli, was invited by YOU and Huisgenoot aboard the cruise ship Rhapsody.

Candice, a shipboard dancer, asked Chris if he’d pose for a photograph with her for a small fee. He told her she should pay him – but she didn’t get the joke.

‘‘As I turned around I heard her say to her friend, ‘What an idiot’,’’ he recalled.

But he made up for it when he bumped into her the next night and they chatted until the early hours.

‘‘Somewhere between 4 and 5 am I said to her, ‘You know what? I’ve just found my life partner’.’’

Candice wasn’t so sure but Chris asked her to call him a month later when she was due to return to Durban.

‘‘Candice came to visit for a week and never left,’’ Chris told guests.

At the wedding Candice was stunning in her elegant strapless duchess-satin gown accessorised with a black belt. The eyecatching design by her friend Annie Potgieter hugged her sexy dancer’s body and flared to a sleek trumpet shape.

Chris, who’ll return to TV briefly as oncologist Dr Vernon Matthews in e.tv soap opera Rhythm City, told her, ‘‘Babes, you look absolutely amazing. You have made me the luckiest man in the world.’’

Guests included Isidingo’s Stephen van Niekerk (Daniel) and Chris’ former Egoli pals Darryl Desmarais (Egoli’s Stephen) as MC, Corine du Toit (Jane), Darren Kelfkens (Joe) and Mary-Anne Barlow (Coreen).
