Look who’s in SA! Oude Meester’s new brand ambassador, British actor Idris Elba, is in the country as part of the Oude Meester Tour.

The celebrated actor will be inspiring and mentoring locals and share his experiences as to what it takes to become a "master". Our very own local “master”, actor/comedian Siyabonga Radebe, is joining the Thor star on the Mastery In The Making campaign.

'I will be DJ’ing at one or two parties over the next few days'

Those who are lucky enough to score an invite to one of the exclusive parties in Cape Town, Jozi and Durban this week might even see the main man behind the decks!

"I will be DJ’ing at one or two parties over the next few days," the 42-year-old star revealed at a press conference at the Van Ryn’s Distillery outside Stellenbosch earlier today. "I had the impression I had to sit next to Hollywood star and laugh at his jokes just to get through the day," Siyabonga says. But he was quite surprised. "He’s not that type of person. The word that comes to mind is umuntu. I love how he’s just a human being and not Hollywood at all."

“Unlike Siyabonga I had to sit through all of his jokes but he’s funny!’’ Idris said on his part.

The Hollywood star’s debut album, Idris Elba presents mi Mandela, will be released later this month and is inspired by Madiba, the legendary icon he portrayed in the movie Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

The album is a ‘‘love letter’’ to Madiba, he said in a previous interview. It was recorded in South Africa and features artists such as Mumford & Sons, Mr Hudson and Nothembi Mkhwebane. He started listening to local music when he was preparing to play Madiba on screen.  ‘‘South Africa has been a springboard for my music,’’ Idris said during the press conference. ‘‘This is the first place I came to to make music. I had plenty of opportunity to do it in England but I came here,’’ he said. South Africa is like his second home, he says. ‘‘I’m from West Africa (his mother hails from Ghana and his father from Sierra Leone) but I spent more time in South Africa. This feels like my home.’’ And aren’t we glad to have this hottie on our shores!
