Ian Burkhart can now swipe a credit card, hold a phone to his ear and even play his favourite video game.

A 24-year-old man from Dublin, Ohio, who was paralysed in an diving accident six years ago can now use his hand again thanks to a ground-breaking procedure in which an implant sends signals from his brain directly to the muscles that move his fingers and wrist.

Ian Burkhart, a quadriplegic, can now swipe a credit card, hold a phone to his ear and even play the video game Guitar Hero!
