The real-life Allie and Noah!

What do you do when you want to celebrate loving each other for 57 years? You channel your inner Allie and Noah and pose for a Notebook-inspired photo shoot.

Which is exactly what Clemma and Sterling Elmore of Oklahoma in the US did, complete with retro clothing, an old pick-up truck and a sun-dappled meadow in the background. Sterling (80) and Clemma (76) are big fans of The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks' popular novel-turned-movie that touched the hearts of romantics around the world.

Such big fans, in fact, that their granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Welch-Christ, styled things perfectly for them for and then shot a series of photos captioned "loving each other for 57 years and counting".

"They are the sweetest people on Earth," the photographer told Tuscon News Now.

"Anyone who knows them talks about what beautiful people they are."

The photoshoot, the brainchild of the couple’s granddaughter Amber Elmore, highlights the love the two have for each other, and includes touching handwritten notes the couple penned each other.

“I am a very loving person and I love to love on and hug people. When I met Sterling, he was like that and we knew we loved each other immediately,” Clemma told wtvm.com.

“Sterling is the sweetest, most loving person I’ve ever met. We tell each other that we love each other at least 10 times a day and that is what I wanted. He said that when he saw me, he knew that I was the one.”

One of the notes shared by the couple reads: "You are my life and my true love. Love you always and forever. Clemma, you are God's gift to me and I love you. Sterling Elmore."

The post was shared on 3 September 3 following the photoshoot and has been liked 11 000 times by users on Facebook.

The loved up duo will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary in February next year.

Clemma's tips for a long-lasting marriage? “You have to work at at it and show your love. Marriage is an inspiration if you treat it right.”
