Although she has been denying it at every turn the ANC maintains Public Protector Thuli Madonsela leaked the provisional Nkandla report to the Mail & Guardian.

thuli Her provisional report apparently states Zuma had personally benefited from security upgrades to his Nkandla homestead and lied to Parliament when he claimed that he and his family had paid for all non-security upgrades.

'It is not for the Public Protector to advice or influence the exercise of the people of South Africa's rights to choose political parties they would like to govern them.'

According to reports, Madonsela recommended Zuma refund the state with the more than R20 million that was used for the construction of a swimming pool, a cattle kraal, marquee area, extensive paving, and new houses for relocated relatives.

This goes against statements previously made by Zuma. “All the buildings and every room we use in that residence was built by ourselves as family and not by government,” an indignant Zuma told Parliament last year.

Meanwhile, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and his deputy, Jesse Duarte, demanded Madonsela release the report or risk being accused of being part of a plot against the ruling party before next year’s general elections. And in a move seen as one deviating from the real issue, the ANC demanded Madonsela’s final report state whether Zuma had personally requested such security upgrades.

Madonsela hit back at the ANC, saying she has no role in politics. “It is not for the Public Protector to advice or influence the exercise of the people of South Africa's rights to choose political parties they would like to govern them.”
