Like a detective trying to solve a case, retired police investigator Piet Byleveld frowns as he examines everything around him.

The furrow between his brows deepens as he gazes at the thunderclouds approaching over the Waterberg in Limpopo. Today is his wedding day and he and his fiancée have planned an outdoor ceremony in the bushveld.

Then the Wedding March begins; a Mercedes-Benz convertible pulls up and his face instantly brightens.

Piet (61), one of SA’s most highly regarded detectives, beams as Elize Smit (52) walks down the aisle on the arm of her son, Theodore (31).

The bride and groom stand hand in hand in front of Chaplain Dawie Kotze and Piet sneaks another peek at her. It’s obvious he finds Elize so beautiful in her silver wedding dress of Swiss lace and satin he doesn’t even feel the raindrops beginning to fall.
