Trevor Noah to host The Daily Show

For the past few days there have been rumblings that our very own Trevor Noah had hit the big time - and it turns out they're true!

The local comedian is set to take over for longtime host on the US' The Daily Show. The 31-year-old made his debut as an on-air contributor on the Comedy Central Show last year, where he gave a hilarious outsider’s perspective on the United States.

Since then he's only made two other appearances on the satirical news show, but it seems that was all it took to impress the powers that be.

The news of Trevor's promotion comes two months after John Stewart (52) announced his retirement after 16 years on the show.

“You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” Trevor told The New York Times from Dubai, where he's currently on tour. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
