Most of the top shows on TV these days have at least one gay character. And for some shows there’s even a longstanding romance between two characters.

Here are some of the hottest and sweetest gay couples on some of our favourite shows!

The L Word

Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman) and Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals) were firm favourites on this series which explored a network of friends, mostly lesbians, and focused on issues related to the gay community.

Desperate Housewives

Lee McDermott (Kevin Rahm) and Bob Hunter (Tuc Watkins) moved to Wisteria Lane in the popular series that revolved mostly around the lives of women. After a failed attempt to start a family, the couple split up but they do get back together again. In the final season of the series, the Solises ask Lee and Bob to be their daughters' legal guardians should anything happen to them.

Modern Family

Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) aren’t just one of our favourite on-screen gay couples, they’re also the adorable parents of little Lily, whom they adopted in season 1.

The New Normal

In season 1, David Murray (Justin Bartha) and Bryan Collins (Andrew Rannells) are engaged, and in episode 22 they get married and have a son called Saywer. Within real-world social networking circles, their relationship is sometimes referred to as Bravid or Dryan.

Grey's Anatomy

Determined and driven Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), an attending orthopaedic surgeon on Grey’s Anatomy, was first the wife of George O’Malley (TR Knight, who coincidentally is gay in real life) but then when the marriage dissolved Callie found love with quirky and confident Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw).

90210

Teddy Montgomery (Trevor Donovan) was introduced on the show as a "player" who had commitment problems, but then it all becomes clear as he admits the complications and struggles arise from his inability to confront his sexuality as a gay man. After addressing issues related to harassment and being accepted as gay, Teddy eventually finds love with Shane (Ryan Rottman).

Glee

Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) and Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) began dating in season 2 of Glee, though they are currently broken up. While it was quite a rollercoaster ride for the couple most of the time, they provided a strong on-screen connection and many epic duets.

Will & Grace

Unlucky-in-love lawyer Will Truman (Eric McCormack) finally found his match in police officer Vince D'Angelo (Bobby Cannavale). In the series finale, viewers learnt the couple were raising a son named Ben.

Pretty Little Liars

After Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) came out of the closet, she found a kindred spirit in her girlfriend Maya St Germain (Bianca Lawson). Sadly, after Maya ran away she was brutally murdered so this love story, sadly, ended quite tragically.

Six Feet Under

Though David Fisher (Michael C Hall) and Keith Charles (Mathew St Patrick) had their share of trouble on the hit show, they eventually found joy as fathers when they adopted Anthony and Durrell. Sweet!

True Blood

Medium and short order cook Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) started to date nurse, and witch, Jesus Velasquez (Kevin Alejandro) during season 3. The following season, a witch named Marnie killed Jesus to gain his power. Not a happy ending, but hey – the journey counts for something!

Brothers & Sisters

Everybody was delighted when pro-bono lawyer Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) married head chef Scotty Wandell (Luke Macfarlane). Despite a few setbacks, they eventually decided to start a family by adopting Olivia through the foster care system.

Partners

Louis (Michael Urie) is an uptight architect, but he finds common ground with a sober vegan nurse, Wyatt (Brandon Routh).

Greek

Despite coming from opposing fraternities, Kappa Tau brother Heath Anderson (Zack Lively) and Omega Chi fraternity brother Calvin Owens (Paul James) date on and off throughout the series before getting back together in the final season.
