A North West University woman student was punched in the face, allegedly by a University of Cape Town student, after the latter won the Varsity Cup rugby tournament this week.

The Ikeys beat the Pukke 36-33 in Potchefstroom on Monday evening.

The student, Irini Agathagelou (21) said on her Facebook page that the Ikey male student started a fight with a student from Potchefstroom in a restaurant in the North West town.

She tried to intervene and was punched in the face.

In a YouTube video, a woman can be seen hitting a man over the head with a shoe. The man then hits her with his fist in the face.

Agathagelou said she had to get five stitches.

The University of Cape Town told Beeld it was investigating the incident.
