Uma Thurman’s make-up artist insists that the actress should be “free to experiment with different beauty looks”.

The 44-year-old star caused something of a commotion when she debuted a fresh-faced new look at the premiere of her new miniseries The Slap in New York on Monday night.

But Uma’s close friend and cosmetic aide Troy Surratt insists she hasn’t gone under the knife, and her appearance is simply the result of experimenting with a different look.

'it’s only make-up, at the end of the day it all washes off'

“Frankly, I’m quite surprised by the conversation,” Troy told People.com. “By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that make-up plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self-expression.

“I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks - it’s only make-up, at the end of the day it all washes off.”

Troy added that he went for a glowing look, and found a way to let Uma’s red lips take centre stage.

Referring to Uma’s lack of eye make-up, Troy explained: “The face is sectioned into three equal parts lending a visual balance and allowing the mouth to be the star of the face.”

With her blonde hair swept away from her face in a side parting, Uma showed off her radiant complexion at the event.

But Troy admits that achieving such a flawless look took some time.

“I prepped Uma’s skin by massaging with Creme de la Mer The Concentrate,” Troy said. “I applied a glowing foundation using a Beauty Blender for a super natural look. When the make-up was finished we misted her face with Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist for added radiance.”
