Vaal Dam full to bursting – see incredible photos and video!

On Monday the department of water and sanitation confirmed the dam was at 100 percent – for the first time in six years.

Excitement ran high last week when it became known that the water level of the Vaal Dam had passed the 85 percent-full  level. It was the highest level in two dry years.

Spectators streamed to the dam to see the water mass with their own eyes. What a spectacle it was when Nomvula Mokonyane, minister of water and sanitation, opened two of the sluices to prevent the dam bursting due to the incredible water pressure. The present water level doesn’t mean the end of the water shortage and we still have to be careful about how we use the available water.

Eight of Bloemhof Dam’s sluices might also be opened. People have been warned that their opening could cause flooding.
