Jack Nicholson's ex-wife has shot down myths surrounding his playboy reputation, insisting he's nothing like the man he has been portrayed as in the tabloids.

The Departed star and Sandra Knight were married from 1962 to 1968, and had a daughter, Jennifer, in 1963. Following their divorce, Jack had an on-again-off-again relationships with actress Anjelica Huston in the 1970s and 1980s and Lara Flynn Boyle in the late 1990s, but despite his reputation as a Lothario, his ex reveals he was a tender man and she was very happily married to him.

"The real Jack is a loving, caring, giving person," she tells Closer magazine. "We had a very beautiful, sweet marriage."

And, according to biographer Marc Eliot, Sandra may have been the one who turned him off marriage when she left him and moved away with Jennifer.

"Marriage was a hot stove," the Nicholson: A Biography author tells the publication. "He touched it, got burned and never did it again."

"Jack has always had that quality that draws women to him," a source adds. "He throws off a certain electricity and he knows it."

While the 79-year-old doesn't seem to have any regrets about his life, he has thought about trying his hand at love again.

"I would love that one last romance," he told the magazine last year, 2015 "but I'm not very realistic about it happening. What I can't deny is my yearning. I'm definitely still wild at heart, but I've struck biogravity. I can't hit on women in public anymore. I didn't decide this; it just doesn't feel right at my age.
