Wedding of my dreams

A traditional township wedding is what she’d dreamed of since she was a little girl. Her childhood home is full of pictures of her mother’s joyous celebration and she wanted to do things the same way – a line of bridesmaids, friends and family dancing and ululating in the streets and traditional food prepared by her aunts and uncles in big three-legged pots.

And Sarah Ngubeni isn’t disappointed when it’s time to celebrate.

The gorgeous TV personality, known for her roles in Isidingo (as conniving Thandi) and Scandal! (Lulama Jackson) is enjoying her traditional wedding with all the trimmings – twice over in fact because both the bride’s and groom’s parents have insisted on holding separate receptions.

Then there’s the white wedding – which means three festive celebrations. Talk about doing things in style!

Everything is just the way she wanted it, Sarah (30) says. It’s her dream wedding, she feels like the dream bride and she’s marrying the man of her dreams, hunky Mbuso Thabethe, CEO of Mohlaleng Media.

Mbuso (33) arrives at the wedding with Kenny “Mr Sushi” Kunene in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce Phantom worth about R4 million.

They explain how it all came about when we visit them the morning after they exchanged vows in a private ceremony in the garden of their Sandton home.

“We decided to go big or go home,” Sarah says. They became engaged in November 2009 and Mbuso negotiated lobola last year.

At first they thought they’d do the traditional weddings in December and have a big church wedding in April. “But all that changed in the past few weeks,” Mbuso says.

“Our parents said because we are Christians we needed to do the right thing. We couldn’t have all these celebrations without getting married in church,” Sarah adds.

“We decided to have a small ceremony with just 12 family members. Then our friends and family asked if we were sure. So we went from 12 to 60 of our closest family and friends and it turned out to be a beautiful ceremony. It was really a blessing to have everyone who mattered there.”
