The family of a woman who was dragged for almost 20m under a bakkie are looking for the culprit.

After Thursday's incident, Suzanne Leyden is in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

'We can't find anyone who can tell us exactly what happened'

Suzanne, the 36-year-old mother of one and a teacher at  Sandown High School, was involved in a minor bumper bashing with another driver on Thursday morning.

She's thought to have stopped her car and got out to inspect the damage when she was hit by a white bakkie. The car sped off after hitting,  dragging Suzanne almost 20m.

She was left lying in the middle of the road when another motorist spotted her and called emergency services, who arrived at around 7am She was treated at the scene then rushed to hospital.

Suzanne's close family spent the day in a private hospital in Johannesburg where she was treated for two skull fractures and swelling on the brain.

According the paramedics, the mother of one also sustained a breast injury.

“We can't find anyone who can tell us exactly what happened,” her elder sister Marlize Leyden says. “The only witness is someone who saw her lying on the ground.”

According to enca.com, Marlize Leyden was "audibly shaken" on the phone. She added that she was relieved that Suzanne's five-year-old son was not in the car at the time.

“It's believed the accident happened when the woman stopped her car to exchange details with another motorist after a small collision. The other person apparently sped away and dragged the woman under the vehicle,” spokesperson for ER24, Russel Meiring said yesterday.

Marlize has asked anyone with a description of the driver or their registration number to contact the authorities.

Wayne Minnaar of the Johannesburg Metro Police, confirmed a case of hit-and-run and reckless driving has been opened at the Bramley police station.

“But no one has been arrested," he said.

Anyone with information about the incident can phone the Metro Police at 011-375-5911 bel.
