World’s ex-fattest man finds love

Once the world’s fattest man, Paul Mason is now more than 300 kg lighter and head-over-heels in love.

Mason (52), who’s from the UK, first met his new girlfriend, US businesswoman Rebecca Mountain (40), via Facebook.

After watching a documentary about Mason’s extreme obesity, Mountain contacted the Brit to help him raise money for an operation to remove his excess skin.

Mason, who at his heaviest weighed more than 440 kg, lost a staggering amount of weight after having gastric bypass surgery four years ago, but this has left him with more than 50 kg of excess skin.

Even though Mason and Mountain were more than 5 400 km apart, they immediately clicked. “Our first chat on Skype was over four hours and it just felt like we’d been talking for years,” says Mason. “At the end of the conversation, I just said to her, ‘What time tomorrow then?’ ”

Mountain says she struggled to find deep connections with men and was growing tired of the dating game, but Mason was different. “He’s incredible, a genuine person,” she says. “Incredibly honest and open about the difficulties he’s been through, which helped our relationship.”

After another marathon Skype session, Mountain told Mason, “I really like you,” and they’ve been together ever since.

The two lovebirds only recently met in real life. “When I met her at the airport, it was far better than the picture you see on Skype,” says Mason. “It was so natural, like meeting someone you’ve met 10 years ago.”

Mason now plans on moving to the US to help Mountain with her cat-toy business. The two also hope to raise enough money for Mason’s skin removal operation.
