It's a baby Java mouse deer and right now, it's no bigger than a hamster.

The eye-wateringly cute animal, which was born just a few weeks ago at a zoo in the Netherlands, recently took its first tentative steps.

As the name suggests, the newborn looks like a cross between a mouse and Bambi, and will probably never grow to bigger than the size of a rabbit. As such, it's one of the world's smallest hoofed animals.

The extremely timid fawn and his mother were photographed among the leaves at the Natura Artis Magistra Zoo.

The rare animals, which are found in the wild in parts of Thailand, Borneo and Sumatra, are said the be incredibly intelligent.
