Young Star Wars fan gets stormtrooper prosthetic

15 January 2015

A young Star Wars fan from the US recently received a 3D-printed prosthetic arm made to look like the armour worn by characters in his favourite movie franchise.

Liam Porter (7), who was born without part of his left arm, was in for a big surprise when he was met by a group of people dressed up as Star Wars characters at his local cinema.

There they gave him a new prosthetic arm, which was made to look like the arm of a Star Wars stormtrooper.

John Peterson made the arm as part of his involvement in E-Nable, a charity that helps people get 3D-printed hands.

E-Nable allows people to download designs for prosthetic hands for free, after which a 3D printer can be used to make them.

The group also connects those in need of prosthetics with people who have the 3D printers needed to print the designs.
