Charlotte Bevan (30) was captured on CCTV cameras leaving Bristol Maternity Hospital carrying her newborn baby girl. Just days later, both their bodies were found at the at the foot of a gorge 2 km away.

'At the moment we are not treating either death as suspicious'

Charlotte, though to be suffering from a mental illness, walked out of the hospital  just four days after giving birth to Zaani Tiana.

She left the building wearing her hospital slippers instead of shoes and no coat to protect her from the icy UK winter weather.

The new mother's body was found after a member of the public spotted slippers and a baby blanket at the bottom of the gorge on Wednesday, and rescue services launched a search of the rockface. Charlotte's body was found first and her identity confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

Zaani Tiana's body was found hours later.

"I regret to inform you that a short time ago on the cliff face close to Charlotte, the body of a small baby girl has been found," Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp said after the baby girl's body was found.

"No formal identification has so far taken place, but we anticipate that it is going to be Charlotte's daughter.

"We will be conducting an investigation on behalf of the coroner. At the moment we are not treating either death as suspicious."

Charlotte’s partner Pascal Malbrouk said she had been suffering from depression and was sleep-deprived after Zaani's birth.
