Imagine thinking your cat is dead, burying him and five days later finding out that he’s turned up at your neighbour’s house.

That’s what happened in the city of Tampa in the American state of Florida. Bart, a black and white male cat, was hit by a car and found in the middle of the road in a pool of blood. His owner thought he was dead because he was stiff.

He buried Bart immediately.

Five days later a neighbour saw Bart limping towards her house. He was emaciated, thirsty and had a broken jaw.

The neighbour told Bart’s owner he’d returned from the dead and the owner rushed him to an animal welfare organisation.

Staff at the welfare centre say it’s a miracle Bart survived so long under the ground – not to mention the fact that he had the strength to dig himself out of his grave.

Apart from his broken jaw, Bart had serious wounds on his face and his left eye was damaged. A vet has operated on Bart’s jaw but it’s said he has a long way to go before he’ll be his normal self again.
