The presentation 'Fixing the Firearms Control Act' was indeed an eye opener and a pretty brave statement but it only just begins to open the can of worms.

It takes only a few minutes of research to see that every country in the world is continuously increasing and strengthening restrictive private ownership firearm laws.

There are some 21 studies on self-defence with a firearms. These studies have been conducted by many different organisations most without an agenda but many with the intention of proving other studies wrong.

I know many realise that to succeed in this fight one must find the common ground between opposing sides so that real discussion can take place.

Firearm owners and the public in South Africa have suffered a great blow from gun control and government but the public even more.

Gun control supporters are convinced their safety is dependent on removing citizens guns and that guns are responsible for all the violence and ills of the world.

The quickest way to remove a right is to remove it from a segment of society for the good of others on some unproven pretext or fear.

Guns as any dictionary will show are designed to launch a projectile. What screams at anyone who reads gun control articles is the unjustified fear inflicted on all.

Is owning a gun looking after our families future or is there more to it?

The calls for more stringent firearm legislation has stimulated considerable debate surrounding the notion of a crime free South Africa is a gun free South Africa.
