Cape Town - A police detective was fatally shot in Philippi on the Cape Flats about 21:30 on Thursday night.
Inspector Joseph Johnson of the detective unit in Grassy Park
was conducting an investigation near the Brown's Farm informal settlement when he was shot, Captain Rod Beer said on Friday.
Witnesses said Johnson was making a phone call at a garage when shots were fired at him.
He collapsed minutes after being hit and his body was found
lying a few metres from his car. His firearm was stolen.
No arrests have been made. Western Cape Police Commissioner
Lennit Max said a reward of R50 000 was on offer to anyone with information that could lead to those involved in the murder.
Johnson was the tenth member of the police to be killed on the Cape Flats since the beginning of this year.
