African men fill sex niche

Bangkok - African men have become a new niche attraction in Thailand's
booming sex industry, a news report said on Monday.
African male prostitutes, predominantly from Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan
and Senegal, are becoming popular among Thai and foreign homosexual
clients and wealthy, elderly Thai women, claimed The Nation
newspaper.
"All their clients are exotic sex lovers," said Srivipa
Jongcharoen, the manager of a beer bar in Bangkok that is a popular
hangout for African sex workers and their clients.
"Their endurance is one of their charms," Srivipa told The Nation
newspaper.
The English-language daily said the African sex workers were
operating in the high-end of the sex trade, and charged between
2 000 to 6 000 baht (46 to 138 dollars) for their services, well
above the average rate of 1 000 baht (23 dollars) charged by Thai
female sex workers to foreign clients.
Thailand's notorious sex industry turned into a multinational
business during the country's economic boom in the early 1990s when
it attracted sex workers from Central Asia, Russia and Eastern
Europe to cater to wealthy Thai businessmen.
The spread of AIDS among Thais, about one million of whom are
living with the virus, has also made sex workers imported from
Myanmar (Burma) and mainland China popular among Thai clientele who
believe foreign prostitutes are less likely to be infected. - Sapa-DPA
