Durban - One of the two men detained for questioning on Tuesday night in connection with the murder of Pinetown magistrate Tony Hofert, was arrested and would appear in court on Wednesday, Durban police said.
Hofert was gunned down opposite the Pinetown police station in Old Main Road on Monday shortly after dropping his daughter off at a local high school.
The second man, a police captain, would be questioned on Wednesday, Captain Vishnu Naidoo said.
He said a vehicle believed to have been used in Hofert's murder, was recovered.
The arrest came after an intensive investigation by a team of
detectives from the Serious and Violent Crime project office and
the Durban Murder and Robbery Unit, Naidoo said.
He said police had yet to establish the motive for the murder.
Shortly after Hofert dropped his daughter off at school on Monday a vehicle crashed into the rear of his BMW. Both drivers got out of their cars and an argument ensued.
The second driver pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting Hofert in the chest. He died at the scene.
The gunman fled in a white car after the shooting.
