Queenstown - An Eastern Cape policeman and a teenage boy were killed and another officer wounded during a shoot-out at Ndonga in Queenstown on Monday afternoon, police said.
Two police officers arrived at the boy's home to arrest him in
connection with an armed robbery which had taken place at the
weekend, Sergeant Namhla Mdleleni said on Monday.
The youth apparently disarmed one of the policemen in a scuffle. He then allegedly shot him dead.
The boy ran, but the other officer called for back up. A hunt
for the youth was launched and he was later spotted in the area.
Mdleleni said the boy then again shot at the police.
A police inspector was shot and wounded in the leg.
Police returned fire, fatally wounding the youth. They recovered the dead officer's service firearm.
The wounded officer was admitted to Glen Grey Hospital in Lady
Frere.
The names of the youth and the dead and injured police members
have not been released.
