VW must re-hire 1 300 it fired

Johannesburg - Volkswagen SA must re-employ 1 300 workers dismissed from the
company's plant in Uitenhage last February, the Commission for
Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration ruled on Tuesday.
The CCMA ruled that Volkswagen's dismissal of the 1300 workers, who
embarked on an illegal strike, was fair, but the procedures the
company followed were unfair.
The company must re-employ all the workers by 5 February.
The National Union of Metalworkers welcomed the decision. Spokesman
Irvin Jim said the union would study the findings before issuing a
statement.
Volkswagen was not immediately available for comment on Monday
night.
